As far as the grit and grime goes, this one is as muddy as the HBO series "Deadwood", and just as sin infested with Dutch Albert's reintroduction of alcohol, gambling and prostitution to the town of Garlow on the California Trail of 1849. That's probably unavoidable in defining the principal characters and frontier life as it existed in the mid-1800's. It's a slow building Western and very dark in places, virtually most places. Picturesque can be found on all major streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Youtube.I fully expected a low IMDb rating and a fair share of negative reviews for "Never Grow Old", but I really don't see why. With a unique song and a different perspective on the narratives we’ve heard dozens of times, this will be the next explosive band before we know it. If you’re looking for a band to be your travel companion this summer, Picturesque is the perfect artist.

Simply listening to their songs makes you want to roll down your windows and blare the song while flying down highways. Picturesque is the band the scene needs this summer. On December 7th, 2018, Picturesque released their latest single “Pray.” Softer than their previous releases, but not lacking the passionate instrumental backline, the song begins with the heartfelt lyric ‘I should pray a little more and think a little less The devil’s in my head and he won’t let me rest.’ The tone is immediately set for this single, and it continues to be filled with lyrics that cut deep including ‘Well you can choke on every single word you ever said,’ ‘Spin me in your web and let me go again,’ ‘Am I just a slave? Am I going to waste?’ and ‘I should pray a little more, I shouldn’t pray for death.’ Despite playing to a narrative of heartbreak, one we’ve heard a multitude of times, Picturesque provides a new perspective. The album release also featured songs from the band’s previous release Monstrous Things, including the first trio of songs that started the band’s legacy. Some hit close to home, such as ‘Lusting over love when there’s none to give,’ ‘You’re acting like an addict and showing up at shows,’ and the single’s namesake, ‘You are dead flowers to my feelings, don’t you know.’ The single was the main release off of the band’s album Back To Beautiful, which was released through EVR on July 14, 2017. The song, in typical Picturesque style, featured heavy lyrics. This song breaks barriers of the alternative world, providing a different sound not found in the scene often. The song was softer than their previous tracks, and the influence of artists such as Blackbear and Post Malone, who the band cites as their inspirations, is definitely present. Masaw Picturesque’s return with their single “Dead Flowers,” a different and unique song. Once the tone is settled, it is unable to deny the messages being conveyed in the lyrics. This also definitely pushes the focal point of heartbreak and mental health to the forefront.
The sheer power behind the vocals accompanied by a soft acoustic guitar provides a different viewpoint on typically heavier songs of theirs. By toning down the fierce instrumentals and changing the tone to a softer one, the lyrics of this trio are more prominent, and the listener is unable to escape the emotion being conveyed. Intense vocals paired with cyclic drumming patterns also mix in the vibe of artists such as Blessthefall, who Picturesque have, ironically, toured with.Shortly after the release of this series of singles, Picturesque uploaded the “Broken Home Sessions,” stripped-down acoustic versions of each song. The first three Picturesque singles are “Just Exist,” “One of Us” and “Speak Softly.” While each has a slightly different sound, each sound like something Sleeping With Sirens would have on their With Ears To See and Eyes to Hear album, but better. On December 16, 2014, the band uploaded three singles to their Youtube and Bandcamp, which would later be released as part of their Monstrous Things album on November 20, 2015, via EVR. In addition to covers of songs, such as “Scars To Your Beautiful” by Alessia Cara, “Do Re Mi” by Blackbear, who Picturesque is heavily influenced by, and “11 Minutes” by Yungblud and Halsey, the band has been releasing music since late 2014.
Despite having an album produced by Erik Ron (who has a history of work with artists such as Panic! At The Disco) and a record deal with Equal Vision Records, the band has only 18,000 Twitter followers, a shocking number for a band possessing such raw talent. Right now, you should be asking yourself two questions: Who the hell are Picturesque, and why haven’t I been listening to them forever?Consisting of Kyle Hollis (vocals), Zach Williamson (guitar), Dylan Forrester (guitar), and Jordan McGreenway (bass), Picturesque is a band which deserves more than the small following they have.
